Procedure
A solution of methyl 2-[N-(5-bromo-2-(cyclopentylmethoxy)benzyl)-N-ethylamino]pyridine-5-carboxylate (see reference example 5) (0.37 g, 0.83 mmol) in THF (4 ml) and methanol (4 ml) was treated with IN aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (4 ml). The reaction was heated at 40° C. for 18 hours. The solvents were evaporated at reduced pressure and the residue was acidified with 1N acetic acid (4 ml) and allowed to stir for 2 days. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo at 45° C. to give the title compound as a white solid (0.32 g, 89%).
