Procedure

To 65 mg (0.19 mmol) of 4 was added 5 ml of glacial acetic acid. The mixture was heated to 60° C. and allowed to stir until the mixture was homogeneous. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and 300 mg of 10% Pd/C was added followed by 1 g of ammonium formate. The mixture was heated to 70° C. and allowed to stir at that temperature for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered. The residue was washed with 50 ml of dichloromethane. The combined filtrate was concentrated. The residue was dissolved in 100 ml of dichloromethane and washed with 2×50 ml of saturated NaHCO3 followed by 2×50 ml of brine. The organic part was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to give 50 mg (0.16 mmol, 82%) of 5.
