Procedure
To a solution of 200 mg (0.52 mmol) of 8 in 40 ml of dichloromethane (distilled over calcium hydride) was added 92 mg (0.8 mmol) of N-hydroxysuccinimide and 152 mg (0.8 mmol) of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC). The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at room temperature for 48 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with 50 ml of dichloromethane and washed with 50 ml of brine, 2×50 ml of saturated sodium bicarbonate followed by 2×50 ml of brine. The resulting solution was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to give 245 mg (0.51 mmol, 98%) of 9 as a white solid.
