Procedure
The cis/trans mixture of 4-(4-oxo-3,4-dihydro-quinazolin-2-ylmethyl)-cyclohexanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester (Compound BBA) (1 g) was dissolved in a minimal amount of TBF (10 mL) and mixed with concentrated aqueous LiOH (5 mL). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred vigorously and heated at 65° C. for 3 h. After cooling and concentration, the reaction mixture was acidified to pH 4 with dilute HCl and concentrated to dryness: mass spectrum m/z 287 [(M+H)+; calcd for C16H18N3O3: 286].
