Reaction Steps
A solution of 3.8 g of the amine from Step D, 3.7 g ethyl 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyrate, and 0.68 ml acetic acid in 50 ml ethanol was hydrogenated and the isomers separated by chromatography on silica gel using 1:1 ethylacetate:hexane to afford 1-t-butoxycarbonylmethyl-3-(1-ethoxycarbonyl-3-phenylpropyl)amino-7-phenylperhydroazepin-2-one:
