Procedure

After stirring a mixture of 12 g of N2 -(1(S)-cyano-3-phenylpropyl)-N6 -trifluoroacetyl-L-lysine and 40 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid for 5 hours at room temperature, 200 ml of ice-water was added thereto and after adjusting the pH thereof to about 4.5 with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution with stirring, the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at 0° C. The crystals thus deposited were washed with water, recovered by filtration, and dried in vacuo at 45° C. to provide 8.3 g of N2 -(1(S)-carbamyl-3-phenylpropyl)-N6 -trifluoroacetyl-L-lysine.
