Procedure
Ethyl 7-mercapto-5-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxylate (J. Med. Chem. 1981, 24(5), 610-13) was heated in 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution until all has passed into solution. The reaction mixture was cooled and its pH was adjusted to 1 with aqueous hydrochloric acid. The resulting precipitate was filtered off, dried and recrystallized from dimethylformamide. There was obtained 7-mercapto-5-methyl-pyrazolo[1,5-a] pyrimidine-3-carboxylic acid as a yellow powder having a of melting point of 161°-162° (dec.).
