Procedure
A solution of 17.5 g of 2-(tritylamino)-4-thiazoleglyoxylic acid ethyl ester (Z)-O-(2-bromoethyl) oxime and 5 g of sodium azide in 200 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide was stirred at 50° C. for 15 hours. The reaction solution was cooled to 20° C. and partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic phase was dried over sodium sulphate and the solvent was removed in a vacuum. Crude 2-(tritylamino)-4-thiazoleglyoxylic acid ethyl ester (Z)-O-(2-azido-ethyl) oxime was obtained as an oil.
