Procedure

To a solution of trans, trans, trans-2,4,6-undecatrien-1-ol (7.2 g) in chloroform (300 ml) was added manganese dioxide (50 g) and then the mixture was stirred for 15 hours at ambient temperature. The resultant mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give an oily residue, which was subjected to a column chromatography on silica gel (developing solvent: chloroform). The eluate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give oily trans, trans, trans-2,4,6-undecatrienal (5.5. g).
