Procedure
9-bromo-2-t-butoxycarbonylmethyloxy-4H-pyrido[3,2,1-jk]carbazole-4-one (120 mg) produced in Example 118 was dissolved in acetic acid (5 ml) and 48% HBr (5 ml), and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into water and the crystals precipitated were recovered by filtration, and washed with water, ethanol and ether in succession to obtain the title compound (96 mg, 92%).
