Procedure
9-bromo-2-methoxy-5-(5-methyl-3-pyridylmethyl)-4H-pyrido[3,2,1-jk]carbazole-4-one (302 mg) produced in Example 123 was suspended in anhydrous methylene chloride (80 ml), and boron tribromide (0.33 ml) was added dropwise at room temperature. After stirring at room temperature for 3 hours, the reaction mixture was poured into ice water (100 ml) and saturated aqueous solution of sodium hydrogencarbonate was added thereto until the termination of foaming. The crystals precipitated were recovered by filtration. The thus obtained crude crystals were washed with ethanol and ether in succession to obtain the title compound (227 mg, 78%).
