A mixture containing 6-morpholin-4-yl-2-(2-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1H-benzoimidazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester (75; 670 mg, 1.65 mmol) in 1M NaOH (27 ml) was stirred at 70° C. for 30 min. The reaction mixture was neutralized with 10% aqueous HCl. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and dried to afford 6-morpholin-4-yl-2-(2-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1H-benzoimidazole-4-carboxylic acid 76 (600 mg, 93%) as a pale yellow solid.
