Procedure
A stirred mixture of 2-amino-4-methyl-pentanoic acid tert-butyl ester, hydrochloride (5.00 g, 22.34 mmol), 1,3-thiazole-2-carboxaldehyde (2.53 g, 22.34 mmol) and triethylamine (3.1 mL, 22.3 mmol) in dichloromethane (60 mL) was heated under reflux under nitrogen for 19 hours. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, washed twice with water, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to give the title compound as an oil.
