Procedure
Ethyl N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-L-leucyl-(5S)-5-ethyl-L-prolinate (0.965 g, 2.5 mmol) was dissolved in 3 mL of ethanol. The resultant solution was treated with 1.2 M LiOH solution (3.8 mL, 4.52 mmol) at room temperature. After 4 hours, the volatiles were removed under reduced pressure, and 1 N HCl was added. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×), and the combined organics were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the titled compound. MS (ESI) m/z 357 (M+H)+.
