m-Chloroperbenzoic acid (1.66 g, 9.65 mmol) was added to a mixture of 3-(2-methyl-2-propenyl)-3H-benzoxazol-2-one (1.66 g, 8.77 mmol) in methylene chloride (30 ml) while cooling in an ice-bath, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was washed with a 20% sodium sulfite aqueous solution, saturated sodium bicarbonate aqueous solution and brine, and dried over magnesium sulfate. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was treated with methylene chloride/n-hexane, and the resulting precipitates were collected by filtration to afford 3-(2-methyl-2-oxiranylmethyl)-3H-benzoxazol-2-one (1.78 g, yield 99%) as a white powder.
