Procedure
To a mixture of 4-methylsulfanylbenzyl 4-(2-methyl-6-nitro-2,3-dihydroimidazo[2,1-b]oxazol-2-ylmethyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate prepared in Example 345 (300 mg, 0.67 mmol) and methylene chloride (10 ml), m-chloroperbenzoic acid (210 mg, 0.85 mmol) was added followed by stirring for 2 hours with cooling on ice-bath. The reaction mixture was washed with a saturated sodium sulfite solution, a saturated sodium hydrogencarbonate solution, and a saturated saline solution in this order, dried over sodium sulfate and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was recrystallized from isopropyl alcohol-ether to afford 4-methanesulfinylbenzyl 4-(2-methyl-6-nitro-2,3-dihydroimidazo[2,1-b]oxazol-2-ylmethyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (203 mg, yield 65%) as a white powder.
