Procedure

A mixture of (R)-2-chloro-1-(2-methyloxiran-2-ylmethyl)-4-nitroimidazole prepared in Example 12 (100 mg, 0.46 mmol), 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (122 mg, 0.92 mmol) and DMF (1 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 8 hours. The reaction mixture was allowed to return to room temperature. To the solution, water was added, and the resulting solution was extracted with ethyl acetate twice. The organic phases were combined, washed with water twice and a saturated saline solution, dried over magnesium sulfate and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/ethyl acetate=1/1) to afford (S)-1-(2-chloro-4-nitroimidazol-1-yl)-3-(3,4-dihydro-2H-quinolin-1-yl)-2-methylpropan-2-ol (134 mg, yield 83%) as an orange oil.
