A slurry of 5,7-dimethyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-2-yl)-methanol (0.3 g, 1.7 mmol) from step 7 above and IBX (1.4 g, 5.0 mmol) in 1,2-dichloroethane (22 mL) was stirred at 80° C. for 18 hours. The reaction was cooled to room temperature, and diluted with 100 mL CH2Cl2. After the solids were removed by filtration, the solvent was removed by rotary evaporation to give a yellow solid. The solid was purified by flash chromatography to give the desired product (229 mg, 77% yield). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ: 2.72 (s, 3 H), 2.86 (s, 3 H), 6.96 (s, 1 H), 10.24 (s, 1 H).
