A mixture of intermediate (9) (0.088 mol) and mercapto-acetic acid (0.0836 mol) in HCl 6N (500 ml) was stirred and refluxed for 1 hour, then cooled and poured out into ice water. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with water and taken up in DCM. The organic solution was dried (MgSO4), filtered and the solvent was evaporated till dryness. The product was used without further purification, yielding 35.5 g (90.5%) of [[[2-amino-5-(4-chlorobenzoyl)phenyl](3-chlorophenyl)methyl]thio]-acetic acid (intermediate 19).
