Procedure

(-)-(3S,4R)-6-Cyano-3,4-dihydro-2,2-bis(methoxymethyl)-4-(2-pyridylamino)-2H-1-benzopyran-3-ol (152 mg, 0.43 mmol) obtained in Example 42 was dissolved in dichloromethane (5 ml), and m-chloroperbenzoic acid (150 mg, purity 80%) was added under ice-cooling. The mixture was stirred for 1.5 hours. Dichloromethane was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was washed with saturated brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled away and the residue obtained was purified by silica gel column chromatography (methanol:chloroform=5:95) to give 94.5 mg of the title compound (59%).
