To a solution of 0.196 g of α-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1,3-dihydro-5-[2-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethoxy]-6-methoxy-α-[(4-methylphenyl)thio]-2H-isoindole-2-heptanenitrile in 0.5 mL of methylene chloride is added 5 mL of diethyl ether and then 0.17 mL of 4.5N hydrochloric acid in ethyl alcohol. An additional 15 mL of diethyl ether is added and the solution stirred vigorously for 1 hour. The white solid is collected by filtration, washed with diethyl ether and dried.
