Procedure

Methyl (E)-3-nitro-alpha-hydroxyiminophenylacetate can be obtained as in Example 9 for the preparation of ethyl (E)-3-nitro-alpha-hydroxyiminophenylacetate, but starting from 15 g of methyl 3-nitrophenylglyoxylate and 10 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride in a mixture of 250 cm3 of pyridine and 30 cm3 of water, for 30 minutes at 70° C. After treatment, 3.4 g of methyl (E)-3-nitro-alpha-hydroxyiminophenylacetate melting at 140° C. and 6.1 g of methyl (Z)-3-nitro-alpha-hydroxyiminophenylacetate melting at 190° C. are obtained.
