6-(10-Acetoxydecyl)-2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylhydroquinone (38.0 g) and tert-butylchlorodiphenylsilane (55.0 g) were dissolved in dichloromethane (50 ml). Imidazole (13.6 g) was added under a stream of nitrogen at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at 43° C. for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was washed with water (50 ml) and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to column chromatography on silica gel and eluted with hexane/ethyl acetate (7:3) to obtain the desired compound (58.0 g).
