Procedure
A solution of 3-[(2-chlorophenyl)methyl]-2propylthiohistidine ethyl ester (Example 2 (i)) (0.48 g, 1.26 mmol), ethanol (4 mL), water (4 mL) and potassium hydroxide (0.111 g, 1.97 mmol) was stirred at 25° C. for 1 hour. The mixture was treated with concentrated hydrochloric acid to pH 4.0 and cooled. The resulting precipitate was collected and triturated with ethanol to give 0.34 g (77%) of 3-[(2-chlorophenyl)methyl]-2-propylthiohistidine; m.p. 227°-228° C.
