Procedure
A mixture of trans-4-(N-carbobenzyloxy)aminomethyl-1-cyclohexane carboxylic acid (5.02 g, 17.3 mmol), prepared as in step 1, and thionyl chloride was heated at 40° C. for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and diluted with pentane (50 mL). Trans-4-(N-carbobenzyloxy)aminomethyl-1-cyclohexane carbonyl chloride (4.37 g) was isolated by filtration and drying in vacuo.
