Procedure
19.4 g (0.05 mole) of ethyl 3-(4-bromophenyl)-3-hydroxy-3-(3-pyridyl)-propanoate, 200 ml of 40% solution of methylamine in water and 30 ml of absolute ethanol was stirred for 24 hours at room temperature. The precipitate was filtered off and recrystallized from isopropyl alcohol, which gave 13.2 g (79%) of the amide. M.p. 188°-191° C. The formula C15H15BrN2O2 was verified through elemental analysis. (The elemental analyses throughout this application were carried out for all elements of the compounds prepared, and are within ± 0.4 percent of the theoretical values if not otherwise stated.) ##STR28##
