7.2 g of tert.butyl 5,6-dihydro-5-methyl-6-oxo-4H-imidazo[1,5-a]thieno[2,3-f][1,4]diazepine-3-carboxylate are dissolved in 100 ml of trifluoroacetic acid while cooling with ice and left to stand at room temperature for 90 minutes. The solution is then evaporated in vacuo and the residue is crystallized from ethyl acetate and diethyl ether. There are obtained 6.65 g of crude 5,6-dihydro-5-methyl-6-oxo-4H-imidazo[1,5-a]thieno[2,3-f][1,4]diazepine-3-carboxylic acid.
