Procedure

Trans-3-(1-azidoethyl)-4-(2'-acetoxyethyl)-2-azetidinone (0.824 g, 0.00364 mole), is dissolved in EtOAc and hydrogenated with 0.824 g, 10% Pd/C under 40 lbs of H2 for 1 hr. IR shows disappearance of N3 absorption. The catalyst is filtered off and the solution is evaporated in vacuo to give 0.658 g, (0.00328 mole, 90% yield) of the product.
