Procedure
4.5 g of ethyl 6-(1-imidazolylmethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-naphthalenecarboxylate hydrochloride was added to a mixture of 15 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 30 ml of methanol and then the mixture was heated under reflux for 20 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give 2.52 g of 6-(1-imidazolylmethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-naphthalenecarboxylic acid hydrochloride as colorless prisms with m.p. 193°-223° C.
