Procedure
Hydrogen sulfide was passed through a solution of 1.50 g (5.2 mmol) 7-cyano-1-ethyl-6-fluoro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid ethyl ester in 25 ml pyridine and 1 ml triethylamine for five hours. After stirring overnight in a closed flask, the precipitated solid was filtered, washed with pyridine and ether, and dried to afford 1.28 g of yellowish solid of the title compound, mp 198°-199° C. (dec).
