Procedure
A suspension of 0.19 g (0.72 mmole) of 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-7-hydroxy-4-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid in 2 ml of phosphorus oxychloride was heated at reflux for 1/2 hour. The resulting solution was cooled to room temperature and the solvent was removed in vacuo. The residue was triturated with ice-water and the resulting solid was removed by filtration, washed with water, then ether and dried in vacuo to give 0.11 g of the title compound, mp 209°-212° C.
