Procedure
302 mg of t-butyl α-{6(R)-[5-amino-1(S)-t-butoxycarbonylpentylamino]-5-oxo-2(S)-(2-thienyl)perhydro-1,4-thiazepin-4-yl}acetate (prepared as described in Example 2) were mixed with 3 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane, and the mixture was stirred for 16 hours at room temperature. At the end of this time, the dioxane was distilled off under reduced pressure, and the residue was triturated with diethyl ether and filtered to yield 278 mg of the title compound as a powder.
