1.10 Grams of (E)-1-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl)isatin 3-semicarbazone was suspended in a mixture of ml of dry toluene and 20 ml of dry N,N-dimethylformamide, and the suspension was stirred for 3 hours at 120° C. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was dissolved in dichloromethane. The solution was washed with water, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from benzene-hexane to obtain 0.84 g of (Z)-1-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl)isatin 3-semicarbazone having a melting point of 189°-191° C.
