A mixture of 4,5-bis((2-ethylhexyl)oxy)benzene-1,2-diamine (5.8 g, 0.016 mol) and thieno[3,4-c]furan-1,3-dione (2.5 g, 0.016 mol) is refluxed in a 100 mL acetic acid:ethanol (1:1) solvent blend for 24 hours. The solvent is distilled off and the crude product is purified by column chromatography (CHCl3) to yield the final product.
