To a solution of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (6.3 g, 91.7 mmol) in methanol (2.5 mL), liquid ammonia (15.7 mL, 7N in methanol) was added and the suspension stirred for 30 minutes at room temperature. A catalytic amount of 8-hydroxiquinoline was added to the mixture, followed by 2-(2-isopropyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)acetonitrile (3.38 g, 22 mmol) as a solution in methanol (2.5 mL). The mixture was stirred at 70° C. overnight. After cooling to room temperature, the suspension was filtered off and washed with dichloromethane. The solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and reconcentrated three times from toluene to afford N′-hydroxy-2-(2-isopropyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)acetimidamide (3.9 g, 94%) as a yellow solid, which was used directly in the next step without further purification. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 5.01 (bs, 2H), 4.05-3.94 (m, 4H), 2.44 (s, 2H), 2.03-1.94 (m, 1H), 0.95 (d, 6H); LC-MS (ESI) m/z 189 (M+H)+.
