Solid ethyl α-[[(2-chloro-4-pyridinyl)amino]methylene]-(4-chlorophenyl)acetate (4.0 g) was added in portions to refluxing phenylether (50 mL). After 20 min at reflux, the reaction was allowed to cool and diluted with hexanes. The precipitate that formed was collected and washed with hexanes. Purification by preparative RPHPLC gave the title compound as a light yellow solid.
