Procedure

To a well stirred solution of N-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-N-methyl-ethylenediamine 101 (5.5 g, 0.032 mol) in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2, 30 mL) was added succinic anhydride 102 (3.2 g, 0.032 mol) in one portion. After stirring the reaction mixture for 1 hour at room temperature, a slurry resulted. This slurry was used in Step 2 without further work-up.
