Procedure
To a solution of (4-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)(phenyl)methanone (2.4 g, 12.82 mmol, 1 eq.) in 100 ml of pyridine was added hydroxylamine hydrochloride (3.56 g, 51.28 mmol, 4.0 eq.). The temperature was raised to 50° C. and the reaction stirred overnight. The solvent was then evaporated and the residue dissolved in DCM and washed with H2O. The organic layer was washed with 0.1N HCl and dried over MgSO4. The solvent was evaporated to give N-hydroxy-1-(4-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)-1-phenylmethanimine (2.51 g, 89% yield) as a white solid.
