To a solution of (R)-2-(oxiran-2-ylmethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (200 mg, 5.2 mmol) in EtOH (20 mL) was added NH4OH (600 mg, 35.2 mmol) at −78° C. The reaction mixture was then warmed and heated at 100° C. for 3 h in a seal tube. The reaction mixture was concentrated and the crude product was used in next step without further purification. LCMS (m/z): 207.1 (M+1).
