To a solution of 1-(benzofuran-5-yl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (700 mg, 3.47 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) was added PtO2 (140 mg, 20%) at room temperature. The stirred reaction mixture was hydrogenated under hydrogen (1 atm) at 10° C. for 3 days. The reaction mixture was filtered. The solvent was evaporated under vacuum to afford the crude product, which was purified by preparative HPLC to give 1-(2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-5-yl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (330 mg, 47%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.20 (s, 1 H), 7.10 (d, J=10.8 Hz, 1 H), 6.73 (d, J=11.2 Hz, 1 H), 4.57 (t, J=11.6 Hz, 2 H), 3.20 (t, J=11.6 Hz, 2 H), 1.67-1.63 (m, 2 H), 1.25-1.21 (m, 2 H).
