tert-Butyl ((5-bromo-1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)methyl)carbamate (648 mg, 1.75 mmol) was stirred in methylene chloride (25 mL), and triethylamine (530 mg, 0.74 mL, 5.3 mmol) and methanesulfonyl chloride (400 mg, 0.27 mL, 3.5 mmol) were added. The mixture was stirred for 2 h and then washed with water, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated to provide the title compound (833 mg, quant) as a yellow solid: ESI MS m/z 448 [M+H]+.
