To a well stirred solution of (CH3)2SiCl2 (150 mg, 1.2 mmol) in THF (5 mL), propynyl lithium (140 mg, 3 mmol) was added and continued stirring for 4 h at room temperature. The reaction mixture was then treated with Et2O-aq. NH4Cl solution. The organic layer was separated and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. The yellow liquid so obtained was chromatographed over silica gel using hexane. The dimethyldipropynyl silane was obtained as a colorless liquid in quantitative yields.
