A solution of HCl in dioxane (4 M, 40 mL) is added to a solution of (1R,3S,4S)-3-[(2,2,2-trifluoro-acetylamino)-methyl]-2-aza-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (12.0 mmol) in dioxane (15 mL). After 3 h the solvents are removed in vacuo to give the desired product as a brownish solid which is used without further purification in the next step. LC-MS (basic): tR=0.69 min; [M+H]+=223.2.
