Reaction equation
[CH3:1][O:2][C:3]1[CH:8]=[CH:7][C:6]([CH2:9][C:10](=O)[CH3:11])=[CH:5][CH:4]=1.[C:13]([OH:17])(=O)[CH:14]=O.O.[NH2:19][NH2:20]>>[CH3:1][O:2][C:3]1[CH:8]=[CH:7][C:6]([C:9]2[C:10]([CH3:11])=[N:20][NH:19][C:13](=[O:17])[CH:14]=2)=[CH:5][CH:4]=1Participants

Procedure
5-Aryl pyridazinone examples were synthesized as outlined in Schemes 7 and 8. Condensation of 4-methoxyphenyl acetone (R14═Me) with glyoxylic acid (Scheme 7), followed by cyclization with hydrazine hydrate or N-substituted hydrazine derivatives afforded 5-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-6-methyl-2H-pyridazin-3-one, and N—R12 examples (Farmaco, 1987, 43, 539).
