To a DCM (7.8 mL) solution of tert-butyl 4′-methyl-5-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-hydroxy-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]biphenyl-3-carboxylate (0.6 g, 1.5 mmol) from step A was added trifluoroacetic acid (7.8 mL). The mixture was stirred at rt for 2 h and concentrated to dryness. The crude title compound was used in step C without further purification.
