Dess-Martin periodinane (3.17 g, 7.49 mmol) was added to a solution of 2,2-Bis-(4-chloro-phenyl)-ethanol in dichloromethane (40 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 17 hours under nitrogen, 2N NaOH added (15 ml) and the organic layer was separated, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to afford the title compounds which was used in the next step without further purification.
