A mixture of 24 mmol of 2-octanol, 0.1 mmol of 4-dodecyloxycarbonyl-N-hydroxyphthalimide and 0.005 mmol of cobalt(II) acetate was stirred at 70° C. in an atmosphere of oxygen gas (1 atm=0.1 MPa) for 3 hours and thereby yielded 1.52 mmol of 2-octanone.
