Procedure

A solution containing {3-[(isoquinoline-1-carbonyl)amino]-6-methyl-2-oxo-2,3,4,7-tetrahydroazepin-1-yl}-acetic acid ethyl ester, 11, (70 mg, 0.28 mmol) in 3 mL of 3:1 THF/H2O is treated with excess LiOH and stirred for 2.5 hours at room temperature. The solution is acidified and extracted with EtOAc. The EtOAc layer is dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo to afford the desired product which is used without further purification.
