Procedure
To a stirred suspension of 2 (42 g) and triethylamine (30.4 g) in dichloromethane (400 ml) in an ice bath was added dropwise a solution of methanesulfonyl chloride (25.2 g) in dichloromethane (100 ml). The mixture was stirred for 30 min. and the precipitate was collected by filtration and recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give 33.77 g (58%) of 3: mp 132°-135° C.; MS m/e 276 (M+).
