Using General Procedure B: To a solution of 4-{[(1H-Benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl)-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-quinolin-8-yl)-amino]-methyl}-benzaldehyde (AMD9882) (120 mg, 0.30 mmol) in MeOH (2 mL) was added methylamine (2.0 M solution in methanol, 1 mL, 2.00 mmol) and the resultant solution was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours. Solid NaBH4 (18 mg, 0.48 mmol) was added to the solution and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for an additional 30 minutes. Purification of the crude material by radial chromatography on silica gel (1 mm plate, 50:1:1 CH2Cl2/CH3OH/NH4OH) provided the free base of the title compound (74 mg, 59%) as a white solid.
